Sourdough Cinnamon Rollercoaster

The only thing harder than weight plate math is sourdough starter math. I prepared too much starter and didn’t want to waste it, so I decided to make cinnamon rolls.

I used vegetable oil instead of coconut oil because that’s what I had (intentional). I put the baking powder and soda in with everything else before bulk rise (unintentional). I was planning to put them in the fridge overnight for a slow rise…BUT my mom graciously and unexpectedly offered to babysit in the evening so we could go out. So then I was like oh I’ll make them tonight so she can have a treat. I took them out of the fridge and let them get puffy. Was it enough? Probably not. Also I dropped the pan on the floor (nothing fell out). Despite it all they baked up well. They were a little biscuity and idk if that’s how they were supposed to be or if it’s because I failed my way through the recipe. I will have to make them again for science. 🧐

My 4 year old photography assistant didn’t get the vision, but honestly this seems like a fitting photo. In another post I said sourdough felt like a rollercoaster but perhaps it is I who am the rollercoaster.

Recipe (with un/intentional modifications) from Daily Sourdough by Farmhouse on Boone.
